City Tavern is committed to providing each guest with an authentic historical dining experience, including fresh, farm to table cuisine made daily in our kitchens. Reservations for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Dinner, New Year’s Eve Dinner, Valentine’s Day Dinner, Easter Brunch & Mother’s Day all day will be available once the menu & details are finalized, approximately 2 months prior to the event. Our regular menu will not be offered while the holiday celebration is featured. Please note a credit card will be require to confirm your table for these events & cancellation fees will apply. Independence Day
Nowhere else on Earth can you enjoy Independence Day where the very first 4th of July celebration took place! City Tavern opens its doors at 11:30 for all to enjoy!
Thanksgiving
Chef Staib sets aside his a la carte menu for the day to offer his Thanksgiving feast, a four-course meal served family style as strolling musicians enhance the holiday spirit. Chef Staib has included a Champagne shrub toast, appetizer sampler, salad course, the entree steals the show when your server brings platters of roasted turkey & all of the trimmings, finally winding down with a choice of desserts & Madeira. Huzzah! We will finalize this years menu & begin accepting reseravtions both online & by phone October 1, 2020.
By far one of our most popular celebrations, we offer seating times for our early seating at 1:00 or 1:30; mid-day at 4:00 0r 4:30 & an evening seating at 7:30 or 7:45 Pm. Please note credit card information* will be required to confirm your table.
We understand holidays are challenging to coordinate. If you are unsure of the number of guests in your party, we recommend making the reservation for those who have committed & increase as others decide. From past experience we know we will be able to increase your party size at least through the first week in November.
*A $50.00 per person cancelation fee will apply from the time you make the reservation.
Christmas Eve
Celebrate Christmas Eve with Chef Walter Staib. Beginning at 3:00pm, musicians will play as our colonial attired staff serves his Holiday Feast. Our prix fixe holiday feast fare menu can be viewed here. As he looks forward to this each year, after lunch has been completed he will put his regular menu aside for the day to celebrate the holiday. Our regular a la carte menu is available from 11:30-2:30 No other menus offered after 3:00pm. Reservation will be available the first week of November.
New Year’s Eve
Celebrate New Years Eve with Chef Walter Staib. Beginning at 3:00n Tuesday December 31, musicians will play as our colonial attired staff serves his Holiday Feast. Our all inclusive prix fixe holiday feast menu can be viewed here. As he looks forward to this each year, after lunch has been completed he will put his regular menu aside for the day to celebrate the holiday, Our regular a la carte menu is available from 11:30-2:30 No other menus offered after 3:00pm. $50.00 per person cancellation fee from the time of making reservation. The cost is, $82.95, 12 & under $35.95. Tax, gratuity & valet parking at an additional charge. If avoiding stairs is required, please call to arrange.
New Year’s Day
Start off the New Year with Chef Staib. City Tavern opens at 1:00pm serving our regular dinner menu. Be sure to uphold the German tradition of enjoying pork & sauerkraut; believed to bring you prosperity in the New Year!
Winter Restaurant Week, Dates to be announced.
City Tavern will offer both our regular a la carte menu as well as offer three-course prix fixe menus honor of Center City District’s Restaurant Week. Chef Staib will offer a 3 course prix menu $20.00 for lunch, $35.00 for dinner. Please note City Tavern will be closed for scheduled upgrades Monday January 13. The prix fixe menu will not be offered Saturday January 18th
Valentine’s Day
On this romantic evening, City Tavern’s regular menu will be set aside as we present the four course lover’s feast by candlelight starting at 3:00 pm. Diners will be presented with a rose and bottle of champagne and roving musicians set the atmosphere that make this a Valentine’s day to remember.
Presidents Day Week
As host of the Emmy Award winning A Taste of History, Chef Walter Staib has visited & cooked in all of the first five presidents’ homes. In honor of Presidents Day, Chef Staib prepares special menu items inspired by some of our first Presidents favorite dishes, which will be offered from Saturday, February 15 through Saturday, February 22. The menu can be viewed here. Our regular menu will be available as well.
Easter Sunday April 12, 2020
Enjoy the beginning of Spring with a special Champagne Easter brunch menu from 11:30 until 2:00. Our Easter brunch menu can be viewed here. For dinner, City Tavern offers our celebrated a la carte menu with our daily specials being dedicated to Easter favorites including Country Ham & Leg of Lamb. Mother’s Day Sunday May 10, 2020
City Tavern’s regular menu will not be available so Chef Staib may present a very special feast in honor of Mothers Day. We will serve our four course prix fixe menu featuring our founding mothers’ favorite recipes from 11:30 am through 8:00 pm. Our Mother’s Day menu can be viewed here. $64.95 per person, $35.95 per child 12 & under. Reservations will require a credit card number & a per person cancellation fee will apply.
Father’s Day
There is no better place to celebrate Father’s Day than where the founding fathers dined and celebrated. In addition to our a la carte menu, our specials will be dedicated to some of our founding fathers favorite dishes.
